Art in the Algarve:

Spend time sketching in and around Olhao, in the indoor and outdoor studio spaces. There will be plenty of opportunities to improve your techniques, including observation, brush work, colour mixing and much more. As the tutor I am available to guide and answer your questions as you go through the week. The itinerary includes sketching the beautiful cathedral in the town square, visiting the busy fruit, flower and fish markets, a visit to a nearby island to be on the beach, a life drawing/painting class.

The beautiful Art School is situated in Olhao,15km east of Faro a working fishing town with cobbled streets and a stunning harbour. It also has a bustling daily market and authentic historical buildings. It is in a non touristy part of the Algarve.

As it is a mixed media course, you will have an opportunity to try out drawing with pencils, charcoal, Chinese ink, (Celia will supply) coloured chalk pastels and painting with watercolour and acrylic paints. It is best to bring your favourite materials with you. However, there are art materials you can buy at the school and in the town

Course Description:
Capture the light of Skye with this drawing, painting and mixed media retreat, led by Celia Forestal-Smith.

Skyeworks runs a limited number of retreats each year, offering an incredible opportunity to be tutored by a range of Scottish artists, in a beautiful gallery space. The reatreats run for six days (Monday to Saturday), with an option to join in with the gallery’s monthly art social day on the Sunday. With the Isle of Baking Company downstairs, light lunches, two dinners and refreshments are included, whilst reasonable accommodation is available in a shared house nearby.
